One of the templates is available free of charge for you to tryout or use; this is the template for a modern style Stage script. This will remain free of the Administration charge, so that it can be used by schoolchildren etc for school plays.

The full set of version 5 includes up-to-date versions of all of those in version 4, i.e. Hollywood Film format, UK Studio Format, Radio and Stage plays together with six formats for the BBC as described in the BBC Writers Room.

A style for stage scripts, with the dialogue indented by roughly a third of the page width, and the Character Names right justified within the left third of the page. Stage directions in italic fill only the right two thirds of the page. A second style for stage directions is right justified for Exits & Entries. Act and Scene headings are centred and are automatically numbered, provided that you use the designated keystrokes to enter them.

The STAGE5C.ZIP sample file also includes a part written script for you to practice editing.

As for the formatting keystrokes I chose the new settings so that they are a better mnemonic fit to their function and so that they are as consistent as possible across all the templates.

I regret that this may cause some confusion to regular users of the earlier versions of the templates.

The keystroke & macro engine of the Version 5 templates is completely different from the Version 4 and earlier ones. So the fields planted in your script for character names etc are different between the versions and would not match up. After attaching to the new version template, you would have to set up the character list again and then go through every dialogue, deleting the old name and pressing the new key combination of the character.

The main reason for this change in the way the engine works was for better reliability, users were prone to altering the character list in the crib sheet instead of via the button, which then made things not work properly. The new engine uses an invisible method of holding the character names and the crib sheet is ancillary rather than essential to the way the new toolkit works.

I put up a request for voluntary donations to support the development of the Word 2000 / Word XP versions, but alas no donations appeared so regrettably I have been obliged to charge a small administration fee in attempt to cover the massive amounts of time I have spent over the last four months, researching formats, developing the program that is the new keystroke engine and most of all testing, testing, testing these templates so that they will do the job properly.
